CaesuraLab is a music education app built for band students and directors. Your privacy matters to us, and we want to be straightforward about how the app works.
CaesuraLab can be used two ways: signed out, where it runs entirely on your device, and signed in, where a student or director account lets a class share assignments and results. What we collect depends on which you use.
Signed out, CaesuraLab collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics tracking, and no advertising. Practice happens on your device and stays there.
Signing in is optional and uses Google Sign-In. We request only your basic profile — your name and email address. We never request access to your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, contacts, or any other Google service, and we cannot read them.
Once signed in, we store:
• Your name and email address from your Google account
• The classes you belong to, if your director gives you a join code
• Your assignment results — score, which concepts you missed, number of attempts, and time spent
• Your practice sessions — mode practiced, correct and total, best streak, and duration
We do not collect date of birth, home address, phone number, photographs, or any other personal detail beyond the name and email on your Google account.
A student's results are visible to that student and to the director of the class they are enrolled in. Students cannot see each other's results. We do not share student data with anyone else, we do not sell it, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to build profiles or train advertising models.
The built-in tuner uses your device's microphone to detect pitch. All audio processing happens locally on your device in real time. No audio is recorded, stored, or sent anywhere — signed in or signed out.
The app saves your preferences and settings (such as instrument selection, tuner calibration, and metronome programs) to your device's local storage. This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time through your browser or app settings.
CaesuraLab uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking services of any kind.
Signed-in accounts and results are stored using Supabase, our database and authentication provider, which processes this data on our behalf and does not use it for its own purposes. Google Sign-In is used only to verify identity, as described above.
When CaesuraLab is used in a class, student work in the app may be part of the student's education record. We handle that data solely under the school's direction and only to provide the app to the student and their director.
For students under 13, accounts are created in the school context, where the school consents on behalf of parents for educational use as permitted under COPPA. We collect from students only what is needed for the app to work, never use it for advertising or any commercial purpose, and never disclose it to third parties beyond the provider listed above.
Schools and districts may request a copy of a student's data, or its deletion, at any time by contacting us.
We keep account data for as long as the account is in use. A student, parent, director, or district may request deletion of an account and its results by emailing support@caesuralab.com, and we will delete it. Signing out or using the app signed out leaves nothing on our servers.
As CaesuraLab grows and new features are introduced, this privacy policy may be updated to reflect those changes. We will post any updates on this page with a revised date.
If you have questions about this privacy policy, you can reach us at support@caesuralab.com.
